Join the Dramaturgy Ensemble!

posted September 16, 2026

Dramaturgy Ensemble Prof. Marissa Fenley will be leading a group of students who will support the dramaturgy for the Fall production of Sonnets for an Old Century. What is dramaturgy? Dramaturgy can mean many things: it can refer to the structure and meaning-making system of a play text; it can refer to the practice of research that supports the development of a new play or production; or it can refer to the analysis of how the collaborative elements of a performance come together. This group will develop our own practice of dramaturgy: we will not only learn new ways of seeing as attuned observers and readers in the room, but will investigate how to bring dramaturgical insights into a rehearsal process in order to support the work of actors, designers, and the director. Details: Interested students should contact Marissa (mfenley@brynmawr.edu) to get involved! (No prior experience necessary.) Students in the dramaturgy ensemble must enroll in 鈥淧roduction Ensemble鈥 for half a credit. We will meet as a group Wednesdays 5:00-6:30 in Classroom B, Goodhart Hall. We will join rehearsals Sundays 1:00-6:00. (While you are encouraged to stay and watch the full rehearsal, it is most important you be there for the first portion, 1:00-3:00) You will complete a final project to be determined in consultation with Marissa (ex: lobby display, dramaturgical program note, production history research project)
